The original is much better.
Cyndi puts in a good vocal in the updated version. But the original production was genius, it has a magic and energy that is rarely achieved - and a helluva music video.

I think it sounds more authentic, more unique and energetic.
The remake has some nice production with the slight ska/reggae ish slant but it sounds like what it is ... a remix. I think the original has a more unique feel overall. It is also true that even the original has a ska ish back beat to it but it presents more as a pop song. In the end what folks will prefer is probably just subjective. I think the original is better.
