Default Observations on the differences between the Scots and the English

London has been very busy with Euro 2021 fans recently, unfortunately i have not been able to see many locals of other European countries but there have been a lot of Scots here this week and more English from other regions of the country. Scots are usually much paler and often show that characteristic reddish white look that is associated with Keltic people's at least those of Ireland and Scotland, one thing i noticed was that Scots seem to be a good deal taller than the English on average with average male height seeming to be around 6 foot though that might be more that there are a lot of Scots above 6 ft or 6 ft 2 that makes them as a group look taller but anyway as a 5'11 male i felt small when walking past them. Facial features of Scots also seem a bit rougher, more robust and eyes are seldom large and round in the Mediterranean or central Euro sense and many do show a very typical upper Palaeolithic facial condition. Red hair is common though it often seems very mixed with light blonde hair and that is what is different to redheads from Ireland who seem to have a deeper red colour to their hair. The English seem to have a less pale look about them and their skin seems to be more of a light yellow white which indicates more Germanic and central Euro mixture, facial features are more gracile though UP elements are very common, Med types are slightly more common but still no more than about 5-7% of natives, Alpine types are also uncommon and the same goes for Scotland, the English may only be slightly more Alpine than the Scots but much less than the French.

There was a Croatian TV documentary about Scotland today where they interviewed lot of locals and I was suprised how northern did many of them look.
Those I saw (and who spoke in heavy Scottish accent) had much stronger Norse influence than I tought.

Yea, I know Scots are mostly dark haired insular Celtic folks, but looks wise they have definite Scandinavian input, at least those they interviewed.

Thank you Oliverus for describing the Caledonian barbarian for the first time to us ignorants.

btw Scotland is recorded to be the shortest nation in the UK recently, Wales the tallest.

Yeah even my father noticed how reddish the Scots were , linking it to them inhabiting a region much of a much higher altitude than the English and heamoglobin.

Thought i might add my observations as some people still say that all Brits are much alike when there are notable differences between groups, i think there are quite large differences in Scotland regionally though the problem with height studies is that they only give average height, not the proportion of tall and short people, for example the average height of French males may be 5 ft 10 or so but i bet you that the proportion of French 6ft 2 or taller is far smaller than the proportion of Germans of that height.

True Scots pronounce the "R" in the correct way, or at least, better than Englishmen.

Edit:The man in the video is not a true Scot, with Muñoz as surname...

As someone who lives in Wales, trust me that is really risible.

Hiya, mate, you did a splendid job. I was always looking for something like this but it is generally too politically incorrect.

Yeah, thanks , I'm about 5'11 maybe almost 6 foot myself. So ,anyway, according to you auburn hair is more common in Ireland than Scotland ? Not saying you are wrong but it would be awesome if you did a version of this for Ireland too. Also, not sure if by 'med types' you meant purely med e.g. atlanto-med and altanto-med+dinaric etc... or also atlantid types so it was a bit confusing mate.

I'd say my skin is yellowish and I am darker in a Welsh/Cornish/Devonshire kind of way compared to the average Brit.
