What to make of baldness?
I’ve been thinking of baldness for a while, ever since I was still a kid, trying to figure out what to make of the facts. I myself am still a young man and not showing any signs of going bald yet, and have no idea whether I’ll ever be, but, especially as someone who has always taken aesthetics and my looks seriously, the facts are already enough to concern me.
Half of all men go bald. That means that, unless you associate with very exclusive people, roughly half of all the men you will ever know will go bald, perhaps more than half for some of us. That means that, unless you’ve done a genetic test to be certain, or are fortunate enough to still be able to keep your hair in later life, that if you are male, you have roughly 50/50 chance of going bald. That’s a very high ratio! You could even play the bet safer by assuming that you WILL indeed go bald. As baldness can develop in males as young as in their teens, that means that if you’re a man, that you could start going bald at any time! I’m not suggesting that there’s anything wrong with a bald look, but I think most would agree that it’s generally better to be able to keep your hair than not. For most of us young men, having had hair on our heads for virtually our wholes lives, it’s probably hard to imagine and comprehend not being able to have it. Fellow males, what are we going to do??
You don’t have to share whether you’re bald or not, but I don’t see why we can’t at least share our opinions on it.
Since it affects half of all men, why isn’t baldness considered like a world health issue or something?
Still being a young man with no idea whether I’ll go bald or not, I speak as a potential bald person, so please take no offense!
