    Being 1/8 Moksha Volga Finn, I somehow inherited the gene for tolerance to vodka. Hangovers almost never happen unless mixed with other alcohol.
    And vice versa, the hardest hangover from wine, brandy. Whiskey and beer are a little easier. Most likely it's not about genes, but about the fact that vodka is pure alcohol, and in other varieties there is a terrible amount of fusel oils and other aldehydes (including methanol), which supposedly make the product "tasty".
    Vodka (and pure spirit) is the most NOBLE alcohol. Unlike other spirits, vodka also goes well with a hearty meal.
    If we extract alcohol and water from cognac and whiskey (any distilled, not rectified alco), then we will have extremely toxic aromatic compounds in the residue. And if you extract alcohol and water from vodka, then nothing will remain.

    I also love vodka, occasionally, although it was the indirect reason of my ban last week. It sometimes doesn't stand in the body as it does in the bottle.

    I drink water, absinth and everything in between. Booze flexibility is nothing but a one form of survival strategy, i think.

    Best vodka I've ever drunk was Chopin, it's obviously polish. Not cheap but very smooth.

    edit: and as one my russian friend told me, if you don't drink "yorsch" you don't live.

    Vodka boosts the sense of taste if you eat. I rarely drink it but I've never had a bad hangover after getting drunk with it. It is mixing of various alcohols that lends to hangovers.

    I've heard that the best vodka comes from Belarus.

    A very insidious thing is that intoxication is very strong and comes suddenly. Then a terrible hangover - as two unrelated drinks were mixed, vodka and beer. "Related" - these are conditionally consisting of one and the same raw materials - wine and cognac, whiskey and beer, cider and calvados etc., they can be mixed carefully.

    Since vodka isn't a rocket science, many countries do it well. Russia, Belarus, Poland, USA, Sweden, Finland, Netherlands, France, Canada, Kazakhstan, China, Mongolia. Maybe there is more, I don't know.
    If you do not buy a dubious product in dubious places at a strangely low price (in 2021 and its level of digitalization and control, this is becoming more and more difficult to do).
    The original product is of high quality in all these countries.

    I understand the reason to drink some beer after shots of vodka, but "yorsh" just untasty like any carbonised drink mixed with vodka (beer, cola, tonic, sparkling wine e.t.c). Vodka + sparkling wine - "northern lights" is tasty sometimes, but guaranteed headache. Better is classic cocktails - white russian or bloody mary
