I would not call Southern France part of the Mediterranean belt, the native south French are not much darker than most of the central and north French and pigmentation difference is overblown, also while my knowledge of Moldova is a bit scanty i have seen threads on here from Moldova and they do not look Med in the Greek or Albanian sense and are generally fairly light, same goes for a lot of Romania.

Romanians are very dark though on average compared to my country. I have seen group pictures etc. of Romanians with only a few people here or there with light features. 70%+ of them are dark haired and dark eyed and often tanned. They are not lighter than Bulgarians.
