Yeah just as Jingle Bell said Rio is one of the most overrated places of Brazil. Dangerous, incredibly ingrained with crime syndicates and corrupt defense forces, rampant unequality. Also it's not that good anymore even in what characterized it back in the day. The football is not as good as Sao Paulo's, it's not the cultural center of Brazil for a long while now and it's just a shithole, with all respect for any Rio-based user here.

Also other than the ones he mentioned, I think the interior of Santa Catarina should be more noticed. While not as charming as the coast, it's a lot better to live and has a lot of natural and man-made beauty.

Rio,together with northeast,should be exploded.

Overrated - Golden Triangle especially one falling in the cow belt alongwith Mathura & Varanasi . Hot harsh weather , traffic chaos , dust , pollution , high population density , poor urban planning , scammers . Last but not least , thugs & extortionists in the robe of religion .

Underrated - Some parts of Kumaon . Though I wish it stays that way .
