Yeah if locals here learn you are Roma, they will not care. A lot here only have knowledge of gypsies from popular media. Your heritage would be viewed as mildly interesting, if even a little “mysterious” to people here who know a little about Roma.

Are you mixed? I didn't know, because I've always seen people calling you a gypsy, gypsy etc. but it really always looked different from a normal gypsy.

Gypsies are in fact mixed peoples by definition. When they left India they already were mixed people, indoarian+dravidian, but now, they are also mixed with the peoples where they established. It is something similar to they jews, they have mixed at a very slow rate, but have kept their identity as people and are still physically distinctive enough, but they are not genetically nor fully-culturally levantines anymore. Gypsies are not as diverse as jews because they are just established in Europe + Turkey, while there are ethiopian jews, north african jews, chinese jews and so.

There are millions of pure gypsies in India (many of the dalits enter in the definition of gypsy), but they do not define themselves as gypsy.

Everyone is mixed if you go back far enough. Modern euros being more or less a 3 way mix of European hunter gatherers, near Eastern farmers, and indo European steppe people
