A new poll for The Economist showed that 40 percent of Britons want mask regime to remain in effect infinitely, and nearly half believe the unvaccinated should be permanently banned from traveling abroad.
LockdownSceptics reports:
Last month, a leading member of the Science Advisory Group on Emergencies (SAGE) - the UK government's main scientific advisory group - and British Communist Party member Susan Michie caused a stir (at least among skeptics) by suggesting that masking and social distancing remain part of the our "normal" usual behavior and stayed that way "forever." Unfortunately, her point of view is not as marginal as we might have hoped.
A new poll by Ipsos MORI for The Economist (https://www.economist.com/britain/20...demic-lockdown) shows that a high percentage of Britons believe a number of lockdown restrictions should remain in place "forever", including nighttime curfews (19%), travel quarantines (35%) and masks (staggering 40%!). More than 40% of Britons also believe that only those who have been vaccinated against Covid and can prove it should be allowed to travel abroad ("permanently").
Matthew Holehouse, British political correspondent for The Economist magazine, outraged:
NEW: @ipsosmori (https://twitter.com/IpsosMORI?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) polling for The Economist shows some Brits support anti-covid restrictions *permanently*, regardless of covid risk. Inc:
– 19% for nighttime curfews
– 26% for closing casinos and clubs
– 35% for travel quarantine
– 40% for masks (https://t.co/bcYpSbCFNB

There is also some bad news from YouGov (https://yougov.co.uk/topics/health/s...ign=question_1). Their latest poll shows that more than one-fifth of Britons are "very nervous" about the lifting of isolation restrictions on July 19, and more than 50% are either "very nervous" or "definitely nervous".These numbers seem incredible. This is the land of John Boole, bulldogs, beef and freedom.
However, in March 2020, government social and psychological science experts doubted the British would tolerate Chinese-style isolation. Sixteen months later, the public is already adhering to this principle remarkably.
The British author of the article is discouraged by the results of the polls: "What has our nation become".
