Former English colonies are too much american influenced. If USA isn't good in something, they don't keep trying like losers, they just create their own version (american football) and play among themselves.
The most traditional is exactly England, where it was invented btw, but time has proved they are also not good at playing it as well. Only 1 WC final (as host) and 1 Eurocup final (as host). It doesn't sounds me more traditional than Netherlands, Czechoslovakia, Belgium, Hungary, Portugal, Sweden, Denmark, Greece, Croatia, Switzerland.....

Association football is not equally popular in Britain either. The Welsh have always much preferred Rugby Union, and Rugby Union has traditionally been more popular in SW England I think, and also in parts of the Midlands (Rugby, for one!). Many towns in Lancashire/Yorkshire are considered Rugby League towns as well: Wigan, St Helens, Hull, Castleford, Bradford etc.

Obviously. But as you can see on the graph, if you combine Rugby football interest, it isn't that far behind Association football.
I'm not a fan of Rugby of either type, but I prefer it to American Football at least. Aussie Rules is up there with Soccer as the two best football codes to play and watch for mine.
The only American sport I don't mind is Baseball, largely for its history and culture, but I couldn't watch it. It's descended from the English game of Rounders, and the American equivalent of our Cricket in every way, another game with an interesting history.

Definitely a very fascinating topic to think about, how come football isn't very popular in so many countries in the world, especially since in Central Europe and Southern Europe is kinda like a national religion. Probably it is because of my cultural bias, but I really don't find any team sports as entertaining to watch as I do with football, maybe only handball and basketball can come nearby. Also it is the only sport in my surrounding of friends that almost everybody gathers up at big football tournaments and watches the games with big passion. No other sport even gathers a quarter of the passion here than football, at least not in my surrounding of friends, including women and men.
