Yes but Rugby League and AFL came out of Rugby Union, evolving as the 2 working class sports in Oz. Rugby League had shortly before evolved as a working class sport in the north of Eng, Aussie working classes loved it as they could get paid to play.

Both codes of rugby also benefitted in that it is almost the perfect game for Pacific Islanders, hence the growth there.

I imagine cricket suited India in terms of the climate and the fact any group of people can have a game.

Everyone watches football to a certain extent and it is hugely popular in cities, even so the PL teams are virtually all London, Birmingham and the North West (Manchester, Liverpool) with the occasional teams like Norwich or Newcastle.

There aren't any top teams in the south west for example and you see as many rugby pitches as you do football, vastly more in Wales

I just got reminded how I wish rugby was a bigger thing. It's a phenomenal sport, probably one of the best. Football sucks in comparison.

    Cricket sucks ass, though.

Yes and no actually. Football has always been much stronger than rugby in North Wales - not least because of their proximity to Liverpool and Manchester - while the younger generations in particular in South Wales increasingly prefer football over rugby too.

Yes, if you want to watch rugby then you have to travel from Paddington, whereas if you want to watch football you have to travel from Euston.

Same reason why baseball isn’t popular in Britain but it’s popular in Japan. Pop cultures.

I know you're not Canadian anyway, given your poor comprehension of my earlier post and spelling.
I know you most likely mean here that the gameplay appears braindead, not so much that the players themselves would be braindead -- tho that is optional too.

    however

I would actually argue, and in fact I'm quite convinced, that, if you would measure IQ of players from top professional leagues for various sports, hockey players would come on top. And with quite large margin. The most violent players would have the highest IQ as it is proven without doubt that broad face coincides with apt scientific mind AND the players with broadest faces have largest sum of penalty minutes in great game of hockey. Good example of this marriage of violence, aggression and intelligence are the Ruutu Brothers, of which the eldest, Jarkko, prominently stars as the star of my Broadskull signature. The Ruutubros are one of the most notorious bad boys of Finnhockey and at the same time they are known to be rather quickwitted outside the rink. Curiously the Ruutu family is also known to have produced many stronk academics throughout passing of time.

    For example.

Great uncle, Martti Ruutu, wrote history of Savo-Karelians

    https://fi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martti_Ruutu

and dad Harri developed Mikko computers: ‎"Harri Ruutu designed mikko 3 I/O processor for efficient control of perimeter devices and data transfer already in 1976. This unit practically included Intel's 8080 processor with its memory and periphery controllers. We already had a smart display terminal with VDU 210 keyboards ready. The VDU's "intelligence" meant the microprocessor inside it with its programs.‎"
    https://www.net.fujitsu.fi/fi/histor...kko/index.html
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MikroMikko

There is also Swedish NHL player whose dad or granddad was famous scientist and inventor. I can't now remember his name but I'm sure he is very violent too.

Hockey as a game is also rather expensive so players background tend to gravitate more to (upper) middle classes, whereas footy gathers it masses from the dirt poor.
