The conflict between Flemings and Walloons is old.
And Wallonia is seen, not without reason, as a burden in Flanders, which pays, by the way, more than 6 billion a year for Wallonia. If the Walloons’ attitude was different, the Flemings would certainly want to stay united to Wallonia, but over the years, the latter hasn’t shown any sign of improvement, of positive dynamics. On the contrary, Wallonia wallows in its misery, in its mediocrity, so that the Flemings are desperate and consider Wallonia as a hopeless cause.
