Theodoros Iakovidis, competing in the 96kg category in weightlifting, was qualified to the final in the 3rd place, after a total of 338kg in the snatch and clean & jerk total of 338kg, way ahead of the rest and slightly below the top 2. After his effort he said, crying on live TV, that he would quit weightlifting as a whole after these Olympics, as the State doesn't support him in any way, especially financially, in order for him to keep up.

He is forced to work other jobs besides his training, which has trampled his performance. He's now at the Olympics with just 2 months of intense training.

He isn't even able to pay his physiotherapist anymore. That's how awful his situation is. Thankfully, there's enormous outrage, which has only gotten bigger after the golden Olympian Stefanos Douskos has spoken out of the fact that the State and the sponsors didn't correspond to his calls for support.

Let's hope he doesn't give up, because he has a lot to offer.
