You had a Tinerfeño grandfather though, no? I think you told me that once.

Yep, should have said both colonial and recent. For some reason the island seems to attract them and not the others.

No surprise the people who have voted "yes" so far are Caribeños . Islas Canarias and the Caribe are bonded by blood.

Jibaro, I generally don't like to throw shade on the metropolis policies, but a good reason for the overreliance on Canarios for the late peopling of the Caribbean was that these ones made the most effort to break the monopoly held by Sevillian merchants on American trade, which generally speaking hurt these islands with the sole exception of the Havana port, and that's because it was in the direct path of the treasure fleet coming and going from Mexico. The Sevillians generally failed at keeping these colonies supplied, so that's why the settlers had to rely on smuggling and trading with the enemy powers.

Yes, that´s a fair point to bring up. Well, the Canarios were exploited by the crown for a long time.

From the pattern I have seen, northern peninsulars generally went to Mexico, New Granada and Rio de la Plata. I imagine that besides the latter being the patria of your significant other, another reason for visiting it is the fact that most gallegos in América went to the place, no?

The influence of Galicia is huge in Argentina, especially in Buenos Aires, yeah. Everyone always talks about Italy this, Italy that when it comes to Argentina but Gallegos were arguably just as important, even the accent sounds Gallego influenced.

Although my reason for visiting Argentina, aside from seeing my adopted family, is mostly just because I think its a beautiful country

I might have some. The second surname of my paternal grandmother was Canarian.

There is also another surname back on my paternal line, that sounds kind of Portuguese-like, but when searching on that surname I found out that is a very common surname in Canary Islands.

There was a lot of Portuguese migration to Canarias, so that makes perfect sense amigo
