    Default Representation of Roma

There are 20 million roma world wide and probably much more if you count part roma, or people who often dont identify as roma but are, i personally know such people who will denie they are roma but i know for sure they are, or half roma, quarter roma etc. There could be 30 million roma. Not all steal, not all do that. Probably most dont, but a core of very visible roma do it, street roma, who are then associated with all roma, and that is a problem. As well as the represantation in media and public. I made a important video on it, I cannot compete with CNN or BBC but I made a important video on a "different" portrayal of roma then they are usually portrayed. If you want you can watch it, and tell me your opinion.

Why did the gypsies accept the name Romani imposed by the EU? It was obviously chosen to be easily confused with Romanian, so that gypsies would be associated with Eastern Europe.

If you don't want to use "gypsy" anymore, fine, but don't pretend to be someone else. Use a different name, there are a plenty: sinti, dom, manouche etc.

That's not true at all because the name existed before and was adopted by the first romani world congress not by the EU. It is also not easy confused with eastern europe maybe only Romania but not in every language in German and serbian it can not be confused at all

The word Romani is an exonim. It did exist in English for at another 100 years before it was adopted as a official term to replace "gypsy" in EU documents. The problem is that it was adopted as an official term when competing names for the word "gypsy" could also have been chosen, without risking confusion with "Romanian".

It's obvious how this confusion appears in English, by simple English derivation rules: the country of Romani people: Romania, and they must speak Romanian. It's fucking stupid that this was allowed to slip into official documents. But it wasn't stupid, it was done on purpose, like the earlier similar bullshit: confusing Bohemians with gypsies.
