i’m part ashkenazi, and i submitted my dna to gedmatch, which proved i have levantine ancestry. i see ashkenazim and all ethnic jews as indigenous to the land of israel.

White imo at the very least means 95%+ european, if not not something even more exclusive. Ashkenazi jews are 50-70% levantine on average, so no, they categorically are not white.

Some previous studies based on classical autosomal markers concluded that EEJ are a Middle Eastern population with genetic affinities to other Jewish populations. The problems with these studies have been previously discussed in detail [1]. These studies used fewer markers (mostly the less reliable antigenic markers) and failed to include European Mediterranean populations, apart from the discriminant analysis of Carmelli and Cavalli-Sforza [49], which used only four markers and contradicts the results of the later more elaborate discriminant analysis [1], and the genetic distance analysis of Livshits et al. [32], which includes a single European Mediterranean population, Spain. Despite this when a genetic distance analysis was performed, the greater similarity of EEJ to Russians and to a lesser extent to Germans more than to Non-European Jews was evident [32]. Saying that they "look white" is meaningless since some Kabyles can "look White" too and mostly the same could be said about them. Anyway, Ashkenazis are often visibly MENA admixed and look distinctive from others Europeans.

Because levantines are caucasoid (not european, it's own sub clade), mixing them with northern and eastern europeans will graft some of those nordic features on with much less effort than, say, an indio, and there are many castizos who end up with light hair and eyes. But you can distinguish between their structural phenotypes pretty easily when you've actually lived around people who are 100% european. The modern american or english-speaking idea of what is "european-looking" has been heavily influenced by their excessive exposure to movies, which have been regularly casting mixed people for many decades. This is due partially to the populations around the California area, and partially due to the fact that a mixed actor can more easily play different types of people, in my opinion. To me it seems that it has influenced the perception of phenotypes by the american people very much. I bet a lot of people saw Keanu Reeves for example, as white.

I see them both as native to Israel and White. I do see Syrians, Lebanese and Palestinians as White too, but Ashkenazi Jews as whiter then them or more "nordic" then them but they are both White and native to Israel.
