KITCHENER — For the second time this summer, the Queen Victoria statue in Kitchener’s Victoria Park has been splashed with red paint.

Waterloo Regional Police said they responded to the park on Sunday at about 10 a.m.; they believe the incident occurred sometime overnight, and they’re continuing to investigate.

Photos shared on social media show several splotches of red paint on the lower half of the statue’s pedestal, along with the words “Every child matters” — a reference to the Indigenous victims and survivors of Canada’s residential school system — written in red capital letters.

The statue was also doused in red paint on Canada Day.
