I would dress the way I always dress -- a person is either a slob or not a slob there is no middle ground :
It depends on the venue but generally speaking not a full blown suit, unless the situation calls for it, but rather business casual. It is summer still so that means either a light blue color sports coat etc.. or if I want to be fancy a seersucker one with either light grey wool dress slacks (pants) or chinos/khakis with either burgundy or black blucher/derby shoes (I reserve balmoral shoes for suits) and a silk tie. That is pretty much what I wear on a regular basis but changes somewhat based on the season.
I'm not taking a picture of myself just for this thread man so I'll use pictures of other people (this guys is wearing a cotton knit tie rather than silk tie):
OR something in black kind of like this

Wearing a tie on a date may be stretching things a little be unless you are going to a formal event. Less is more sometimes and you don't really need to be so formal to look groomed and presentable on a date, in my opinion.

It also depends on your age group. A man on his 20's wearing a suit and tie on a date might look like he is "trying too hard", kinda over exaggerated unless that's how he normally dresses and feels comfortable with. Otherwise just face it, sooner or later she is going to find out that 99% of his wardrobe consists of Sci-Fi t-shirts

What I just posted, including my tie, is technically casual clothes. Formal would be black tie which people call a tux or tuxedo in between formality is are suits but a seersucker suit is less formal than standard business suits .
I repeat : chinos or khakis with a sports coat is casual wear, yes, even with a tie.
