Why do most of Bahia mark itself "pardo" in the census? I thought mulattoes in Brazil were considered "black"? Or maybe the griffe-leaning mulattoes?

The last PNAD (National Census of a Sample of Households) showed the following numbers: 9,149,000 Brown (Multiracial) people (62.83%), 3,000,000 White people (20.60%), 2,328,000 Black people (15.99%), 42,000 Amerindian people (0.29%), 37,000 Asian people (0.26%).

Mulattoes in Brazil are for some reason lumped with zambos and mestizos together, if you count mulattoes from Bahia, i believe at least 35% of this "brown" population are from mulattoes or griffes, the capital city of Bahia it is even considered the most african city of America...

    So... Southern Brazil.

Samples of base population: ''European individuals had on average 94.6% European ancestry, Sub-Saharan Africans had on average 96.5% Sub-Saharan African ancestry and Amerindians had on average 94.8% Amerindian ancestry''

Pernambuco and Bahia at some point
