Mexico City, Sep 3 (EFE) .- The leader of the Spanish far-right Vox party, Santiago Abascal, responded this Friday to the criticism of the Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, on the adhesion of legislators from the right-wing National Action Party ( PAN) to his project to fight communism in Latin America.
“No statement from those who embrace tyrants and protect drug traffickers will impede our cause in favor of freedom, rights and prosperity of nations,” said Abascal, who is visiting Mexico, in a message on Twitter. where he shared a video of the Mexican president.
“My thanks to all the Mexicans who have made us feel at home. Long live Mexico!” Added Abascal.
In his morning conference, López Obrador referred to Abascal’s visit on Friday, although he did not name him directly.
“Yesterday some extremists came from Spain, from Vox. They joined with the PAN, because they are the same. Nothing more than simulated those of the PAN and others who were democrats. And no, they are conservatives and ultra-conservatives, almost fascists,” said the president .
On Thursday, PAN legislators signed the so-called Madrid Charter endorsed by Abascal and aimed at stopping the advance of “communism” in the nations of the “Iberosphere”.
The letter, which was also shared in the networks of “PAN Senators”, is promoted by the Fundación Disenso led by Abascal, who has regularly used the concept of “Iberosphere”, a community defined as free nations with more than 700 million people who share a cultural heritage.
But the National Executive Committee of the PAN assured this Friday that the act of several senators with the Vox leader was “in a personal capacity”, and affirmed that its main Spanish partner is the Popular Party (PP).
They added that the meeting that “some PAN senators held with representatives of another party was in a personal capacity, in the exercise of their freedom.”
