I'd say the opposite is the worry. Not some "submissiveness" but the idiocy of masses of low castes, in pursuit of "revenge" for false grievances.

My ancestors lost huge amounts of land and wealth, fighting the British Raj. We had been masters, since at least the Delhi Sultanate, and ended up modest "zamindars" in Bengal, in the 1800s, as a result of our decline under the new management.

Bengal's cultural, intellectual and scientific renaissance, in the 18th and 19th centuries, are a direct result of the British interaction. They're still culturally dominant in India today, as a result of that critical injection.

The whole politics of The Raj, is complicated and cannot be reduced to the caricature of "colonialism" that frauds and "Indian nationalists" like Shashi Tharoor and your bog standard BJP-RW-4channer, push. It was, first and foremost, a South Asian project, manned by, financed by, politically and socially patronised by Bengali elites, Delhi Muslim elites and Brahmins. All for their own reasons.

Look up what the Mughal courts had to say about the British, how they saw them as little better than "Sri Lankans", "dark" East Indians, etc. They disliked the _lack_ of discrimination in the British sailors, traders and soldiers. They married locals of any caste, colour and ethnic background. No discrimination.

Today, thanks to Chomsky-Zinn and Marxist narratives about "pillaging" and economic destruction - the widely stated one about India being 2nd biggest economy in the world before the British arrived - are just intellectually dishonest utilitarian frameworks designed to turn desis into African-American like political tools of The Left.

Yet most Indians saw an upshoot in their fortunes, getting access to training and education, working for the massive bureaucracy, moving abroad as indentured labour (ending up owning the economies that the British built with their participation). The richest billionaires in Ghana and weird African nations like that, usually are Indian. The former president of Fiji, was an Indian. Most British Asian billionaires are also, a direct result of the British empire.

My personal biggest fear, is the Islamisation of Europe, as weak, disorganised, self-indulgent populations meet a very aggressive and rapacious underclass that has been kept poor and hungry for centuries.

It's not "submissiveness" but a sort of indifference and measured respect. Why do you think a Silk billionaire hotelier would feel resentment with the nation in which he became rich? Or the Gujarati pharmacist who went from farmer to multi-millionaire? Or even the Bangladeshi restauranteur who managed to cheat the tax system out of millions, owns half of Brick Lane under different names and businesses and no longer looks up at the regular office-bod Chowdhury who was his class and caste superior.
