    Default Mao: The Unknown Story

Mao: The Unknown Story is a 2005 biography of Chinese Communist leader Mao Zedong (1893–1976) written by the husband-and-wife team of writers Jung Chang and historian Jon Halliday.
Chang herself grew up in Maos China. The book is well written and has about 800 pages.
There are also many pictures. Sometimes it increases in length, but its an easy read all in all.

I never was into communism, but I was shocked how brutal and cruel Mao was.
Everyone who want to understand modern China should read this book.
