    Default The Metamorphosis (Kafka)

Metamorphosis (German: Die Verwandlung) is an allegorical novella written by Franz Kafka which was first published in 1915.
Its his best known story and its really chilling.
It has three chapters and the book begins when Gregor Samsa wakes up and soon realises that he turned into some kind of bug.
As soon as his boss sees him he looses his job and also Samsas family is shocked, but first they arrange it. But he can´t leave his room and so he lifed there for a few days until his death.

Its a classic that should be read; I mean I am not a big fan of Kafka but as I said before its really chilling and the language is beautiful (not only in this story of course).
At the same time its hard to interpret - like most of Kafka's works, Metamorphosis tends to be given a religious or psychological interpretation by most of its interpreters. It has been particularly common to read the story as an expression of Kafka's father complex, as was first done by Charles Neider.

Yes, of course, for me it was an obligatory school reading in my adolescence.

According to oral family tradition E-FT155550 comes from a deserter of Napoleon's troops (1808-1813) who stayed in Spain and changed his surname.
