That's right, she used to have that trace bit of "South Asian"- with more recent updates on 23andme, it has dissapeared. Her only non european points on there now is 1.0% "Cypriot" and 0.1% N.E. African..

23andMe took away my South Asian with its later updates as well; I think as they grow their samples (of, say, Eastern Euros and Balkan people, etc) the range of a particular small component like SA will disappear into the averaged range for those Balkan/EE groups . Does that make sense?

Very much so- are you still of the thinking that your SA is legit Romani? Also, what other calculators would you recommend for fleshing out Roma admix?

Edit: I ran my mom's kit with MDLP World, top two-way oracle is:

1 91.6% Ukrainian-West + 8.4% Roma @ 0.83

The real fact is that I appear to have inherited less of the South Asian component than I would have expected, since the family history is fairly clear, and that side of my family, including my first cousin, are phenotypically much more South Asian than I am (also, I suppose I should mention that the particular Hungarian Gypsy community my great-grandparents were part of, were possibly not as South Asian, as, say, 'full-blooded Balkan Roma'.)

But what I've really learned is that these calculators and the commercial tests really can't clearly define some components-- I've noticed that some chromosome segments labelled Indian or South Asian in some Gedmatch calculators (like HarappaWorld) are labelled (now) as Balkan in 23andMe (for instance).

My wife has the same problems, with her Italian rarely being picked up in tests. But as time has gone on, 23andMe has generalized results more so that the results are more accurate but less specific.

Yep, MDLP World (in my signature line) and LM Genetics K15 (AdmixtureStudio) are the only ones that see my Roma; MDLP World-22 and PuntDNAls catch it in a second cousin.

I gather that 3.5% SA is a bit high for what is normal for an otherwise Nw+Ne Euro person. Might be a sliver Roma here...that’s cool.

0.8 could likely be noise, or perhaps genuine distant Roma, or perhaps her SA is a signal related to something else. Curious to see her 23andme results (do note what JosephK said- 23andme has issues detecting Roma admix sometimes...he himself can confirm that he has a Romani G Grandparent, and he currently scores 0% SA on 23andme).
