Actually, the channel is one very small portion of the Northern French coastline. But people are concerned about the way French fishermen are treating British waters while fishing in them. Those huge factory ships dragging the seabed and annihilating sea life are a fucking ecological crime in progress.
Frogs have overfished their own waters and destroyed their seabed by beam trawling it to the extent that there is effectively (or economically, one whelk per trip won't pay the bills), nothing left alive there to catch. That's why they are demanding that the UK allows them to destroy all life in the British waters as well.
Also the fishing thing is a façade on the French part since they never resolved their internal problems properly and their big fishing fleets got their approvals.
The small shit stain fishers are not worth their GDP production value (for France) and are at best putting a more expensive energy supply deal (between Jersey and France) at risk.
The last time there was a heatwave in France, they couldn't run the nuclear power stations due to a safety issue and asked the UK to make up the shortfall. After this fishing war, let's hope the French aren't subjected to a heatwave next summer.
Whole thing is a joke for a fallen non-country (colonised and got colonised harder in turn).
Spoiler!
