This week on the WEIRD PLACES series let's travel to the inospitable central Asian steppe and the imponent Tengri Tagh mountains, more specifically to Kyrgyzstan land of the Kyrgyz, heirs of fearless nomadic warriors such as the Scytians and the Mongols!
From a western perspective its geograpgy and history would probably carry enough weird/exotic factor on its own, but since the ancient tradition of "Ala kachuu", in Kyrkyz literally means "to take a young woman and run away" a form of bride kidnapping that since the fall of the USSR has been revived on a significant scale, that adds significantly to the "weird" factor. Enjoy !

"In Central Asia, bride kidnapping exists in Kyrgyzstan,[36] Kazakhstan,[37] Turkmenistan,[38] and Karakalpakstan, an autonomous region of Uzbekistan.[39] Though origin of the tradition in the region is disputed,[40] the rate of nonconsensual bride kidnappings appears to be increasing in several countries throughout Central Asia as the political and economic climate changes.[41]"
Please ignore the moronic comments of the Vice manlet reporter like "Kyrgyzstan is a tiny landlocked country that spent most of the last centuries as part of the Soviet Union", "prior to that it was a wild Conan land"... he is obviously retarded.
