China has won AI battle with U.S., Pentagon's ex-software chief says

LONDON - China has won the artificial intelligence battle with the United States and is heading towards global dominance because of its technological advances, the Pentagon's former software chief told the Financial Times.

China, the world’s second largest economy, is likely to dominate many of the key emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, synthetic biology and genetics within a decade or so, according to Western intelligence assessments.

Nicolas Chaillan, the Pentagon's first chief software officer who resigned in protest against the slow pace of technological transformation in the U.S. military, said the failure to respond was putting the United States at risk.

"We have no competing fighting chance against China in 15 to 20 years. Right now, it’s already a done deal; it is already over in my opinion," he told the newspaper. "Whether it takes a war or not is kind of anecdotal."

China was set to dominate the future of the world, controlling everything from media narratives to geopolitics, he said.

They don't have a high IQ it is not even a standard deviation higher than the British or Dutch or Germans. Most people don't have a high IQ. 120 is not a high IQ let alone 106 or whatnot. What they do have is a lot of people 1.4 billion compared to 201 million whites in America and compared to 197 million in western europe so theoretically when a demographic has a lot of people in the planet they will have more high IQ people around but that does not make them a high IQ people. I would say there are no high IQ race or ethnic group not even ashkenazi Jews unless one is speaking relatively instead of absolutely.

East Asians are more shifted towards arithmetic intelligence that is used for maths, science, engineering and STEM in general (most likely due to their genetics). So a 120 IQ Chinese will have higher mathematical intelligence than a 120 IQ European (but the Chinese will have lower verbal IQ). I know they have statistically less geniuses though (becaue of differently shaped bell curve), but since there are more than a billion of them, they can still produce decent amount of geniuses.

It's true. I guess it is hard to beat China in AI research because of the mass surveillance their government uses. (facial recognition etc)

Westerns may cope by virtue signaling and calling China totalitarian, undemocratic etc but it doesn't change the fact that the Chinks are up and coming.

Perhaps ,but, that might be [mostly] because of cultural factors such as their language is highly symbolic , which translates over to mastering mathematical symbolics more easily. Math shouldn't be lumped in with science and engineering intelligence because mathematicians view math and do math in a very different manner from scientists and engineers. So, anyway, Terence Tao is a bit overhyped perhaps since Andrew Wiles and Grigori Perelman have solved harder problems e.g. Fermat's last theorem and the Poincare conejcture.

It takes around 1.4 billion chinese to create one Terence Tao that was raised in Anglo culture, not Chinese culture, to boot ? Not very impressive if you ask me.
