Germanic cultures are actually very much alike. They are cultures of hard work, honesty, the etiquette is almost the same, linguistically we have a lot in common.

The only reason why French didn't keep pace with English as a lingua franca is because it lacked a country like America speaking it.

Oh they did. The French had "New France". A territory stretching from modern day Quebec to Arkansas, from western Pennsylvania to Wyoming. They would've expanded westwards and pretty much whole of the US minus the thirteen colonies would've been part of France at that time and French speaking today. There's a strong French leftover in those above mentioned states. In the capital of former Louisiana, St. Louis there is still a very small French speaking minority. Not to mention the state of Louisiana and the many French Americans of the midwest, myself included.

But no! The French revolution had to ruin everything. Just like it destroyed modern day France. The French kings were very fond of the New World, Louisiana after all is named after Louis XIV.

Agreed, it would be beneficial for all Germanic countries to join forces. Nevertheless each country should remain an independant souvereign nation but allied under a common roof.
