Of course his brutality is not remotely in the same league as Stalin's, but he is still an autocrat.

You need to be to rule Russia, even the Russian people demand it or else they know it can fall into anarchy. He is a competent rule and that's what it counts at the end of the day.

I think that although China will come to dominate the world economically (and maybe militarily), what they lack which the West still has (esp the US and Anglosphere) is 'soft power'.

That will increase gradually as China gains influence on international organizations.

He is expansionist and autocratic, but no more so than other leaders such as your beloved Putin.

Merkel enabled Germany to become the real European economic powerhouse in a way that was less certain beforehand.

And in the process ruined the economies of many other countries...for Europe, Merkel = disaster.
