As Gecko said, sometimes it's easy to distinguish them, sometimes it's difficult

I guess at a group level, it's less ambiguous

Like for instance, even if I'm not a Turk or Kurd, it's easy to me to say that this group of guys dancing are Kurds and not ethnic Turks :

The quick answer is Kurd and Turk phenotype is quite variable even with Kurds in Iran or Iraq. A large percentage of Kurds/Turks overlap with each other and if you were to guess the odds of you getting it right are the same as getting it wrong

For example in this group photo of Kurds if they were dressed in western clothes, many of them would get wrong guesses but a few would get correct guesses by most

    [IMG][/IMG]

Or this Kurd would be guessed wrong by most

    [IMG][/IMG]

On the other hand there are many Kurds with the typical Iranic look that would be correctly guessed as Kurds by most (like the Kurdish singer below), just like there are many Turks that would correctly be guessed as Turks most of the time.

I think, comparing by group pitcures would be better.

Not a fair comparison because of two reasons:
    1) Turkish people are phenotypically very diverse.
    2) There are many Turkish people with Kurdish ancestry.

Finally a Turk who is not biased and understands the history of his country. That is like saying "compare Argentinians and Spaniards by photos" -- Cough cough, there is a paradox here, because Argentinians can be of Spanish descent, same way Turks can be of Kurdish descent. There is hardly a pure "Turkish" ethnicity. It's more of a nationality nowadays.

Does the OP realise how mixed Turks are (Armenian, Balkan/Slav, Caucasian, Levantine, Kurdish, Iranic, Turkic, etc)? Only a few are purely Anatolian, and they would be found in the more isolated regions in smaller towns and such!

Well ethnic Turks themselves aren't really super mixed for an ethnicity, they are Greek/Balkanite and Oghuz.
