Equating the leadership of the Soviet Union with Adolf Hitler’s wartime regime could lead to arrests and hefty fines in Russia, under new plans currrently being drawn up by the country’s parliament to protect historical memory.

On Wednesday, State Duma deputies published a new draft bill on the lower chamber’s website that would see anyone equivalating the actions of the two historical powers face financial penalties and even jail time.

In the text of the proposed bill, which MPs will vote on, it says, “Amendments have been made to the Code of Administrative Offenses, which propose to establish responsibility for the public equation of the role of the USSR and Nazi Germany.”

About equating the USSR and the Reich - it's pretty simple here. Far-right regimes always blame the most vulnerable communities for the problems of their countries. In Hitler's time, these were Jews, Gypsies and communists. Now Jews cannot be touched (you have to pay and repent), migrants are no longer a weak minority, there are still marginal, almost non-existent communists remain.
With competent propaganda for young people, Hitler will be like Mother Teresa, no less.

I wouldn’t say the Soviet Union as a whole but definitely the Stalinist regime was just as bad as Nazi Germany. It really came down to the men at the top. Stalin was a brutish, ignorant thug while Hitler was a raving nutcase. Both men were totally sociopathic and woefully incompetent(except when it came to the mass murder of innocents). It’s a shame that either achieved power let alone at the same time as each other.
