Lets look the map of Baltic Sea (countries) today.
1.) NATO countries:
Denmark
Norway,
Germany,
Poland,
Lithuania,
Latvia,
Estonia,
2.) Neutral countries:
Sweden,
Finland,
If Russians would occupy Gotland island (which belongs to Sweden) they could control whole area (via Kalingrad - Gotland).
By then NATO could not do much. Do you agree? If you do not, at least Gotland is very strategic place. This simply shows that Sweden and Finland can not stay outside if the atmosphere between West and East would become very hot. Does not matter how hard they would try that.
