About Baltic Sea area

Lets look the map of Baltic Sea (countries) today.

1.) NATO countries:
Denmark
Norway,
Germany,
Poland,
Lithuania,
Latvia,
Estonia,

2.) Neutral countries:
Sweden,
Finland,

If Russians would occupy Gotland island (which belongs to Sweden) they could control whole area (via Kalingrad - Gotland).
By then NATO could not do much. Do you agree? If you do not, at least Gotland is very strategic place. This simply shows that Sweden and Finland can not stay outside if the atmosphere between West and East would become very hot. Does not matter how hard they would try that.

Russia will not occupy Gotland, because there is no Russian-speaking population. Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia are on the front line and confrontation with Russia will most likely happen at some point.

I more like meant, if taking Gotland, they could control whole area, and do more a less anything there. Incl. what comes to those 3 small NATO countries there.

Of course that would be a'la action to prepare possible bigger war.

There will not be direct war between Russia and Scandinavia anymore. Especially just like that (alone). More like (as I wrote in 1st post) ... if circumstances between West (starting from USA) and East would become very bad then Russians could decide to act. By then attacking directly against Finland would still be pretty stupid move. Opposite taking the islands like 1.) Gotland, 2.) Åland in control would be smart move. That would make NATO hard to operate in area.
