Greece urged to investigate 'possible racist motive' in police shooting of Roma man

Human rights activists have accused Greek police of racism following the death of a young Roma man.

Officers used "disproportionate armed violence" when they fatally shot 18-year-old Nikos Sampanis last month, the Hellenic League of Human Rights (ElEDA) has said.

The organisation also accused police of "possible racist motives" based on Sampanis' ethnicity.

The 18-year-old was killed by officers on 23 October while riding in a stolen car near Athens.

The fatal shooting took place in Perama, a working-class district of the Greek capital near to where a large Roma community lives.

Maybe he was a criminal but he was not armed, and criminals shouldnt be shot either. Depends on what they did, I can steal a chew gum and be shot because Im a criminal. Seems like he stole a car, that doesnt mean he should be killed by police. He was not armed and dangerous.

But plenty of innocent whites get killed by police or by vicious criminals and there are no protests over it. One black or other non-white criminal or rarely a innocent one gets killed and all hell is loose? What do you call that, if not Criminal Lives Matter More. I should have said Non-White Criminal Lives Matter More and not just to stupid protestors, but to the media that eggs them on too, to NGOs, to the Government often.

Thats just virtue signaling, from the government, most people in the police and government hate Roma at least in countries like Bulgaria. There are Bulgarian politicians who are in EU Parliament who call roma pigs and non-humans. The only ones I see protesting are Human Rights NGOs and Roma themselfes. Where do you see that hell is loose? I didnt even know of that case, before I turned on now TA. I didnt saw it anywhere in mainstream media.

That's because Eastern Europe is more sane than the West in it's Cold War definition. Also clearly Gypsies don't have a socially and legally privileged position like blacks or Muslims in the West.I was speaking more generally of the tendency to make martyrs of criminals who get shot by police and cause loads of trouble for all society, using such a pretext. Of course, but if a criminal kills a innocent white person does that mean it is ok if the police kills someone non-white? I dont think that works that way, that is like revenge killing, and that would lead to a civil war not law and order.

I am sure the Gypsy while driving a stolen car police surrounded the offender got out of their car and he proceeded to try and run over police while he was surrounded.

The uproar is ridiculous. Police are not allowed to protect themselves and their mates anymore it sees.
