Sir Terence David John Pratchett (28 April 1948 – 12 March 2015) was an English humorist, satirist, and author of fantasy novels, especially comical works. He is best known for his Discworld series of 41 novels.
The Discworld is a flat planet balanced on the backs of four elephants which in turn stand on the back of a giant turtle. It is a parody and a distorted image of our own society.
The novels and stories are, in principle, stand-alone works (more or less) - but it doesn't hurt to read them one by one.
The novels set on the Discworld can be roughly divided into the following areas according to the respective main characters:
The wizard stories,
the Rincewind stories,
the invisible university stories,
the witch stories
Grandma Weatherwax Stories
Tiffany woe stories
the death stories,
the Ankh Morpork stories,
the city guard stories,
the invisible university stories,
the Feucht-von-Lipwig stories and
other novels.
I like all of Pratchetts book, Guards! Guards! is probably my favourite and a good starter to the Discworld.
And all the cover artworks from Josh Kirby are amazing.
