A ‘Pokémon’ collector saved rare two-headed animals born near a nuclear disaster site.

Nov 7, 2021

A pet shop owner is playing Pokemon with extremely rare two-headed reptiles in real life.

Radioactivity from the 2011 nuclear disaster is thought to have caused animal mutations near Fukushima, Japan, including snakes and turtles. Since starting a band called The Two Heads, exotic pet shop owner and part-time rock musician Hajime Hinohara has been on the lookout for genetic anomalies, according to the Daily Star. Hajime now looks after a pair of double-headed red-eared slider turtles worth thousands of pounds, after previously owning a two-skulled snake.

The difficulties these animals face as a result of having two minds make it a small miracle that they survive infancy, according to Hajime.
