There was also a large migration of Hungarians and Gypsies to the Houston area, of which some of my family is present.
Oh I believe you, I just wasn't sure what area. There's a Wendish town near San Antonio too I believe. And yes a bunch of Gypsies have migrated to Houston. They have a very distinctive look, and the females would always wear black skirts. I found them super interesting, but my managers would always warn us of them haha.

its not super uncommon but also not very common. If you are from chicago, cleveland or Pittsburg (NY as well obviously then its very common. Outside of those cities you may find the occasional american with some polish or czech ancestry. Finding another slovak american..besides meeting slovak immigrants in the US and their children, I cant even recall meeting an actual born in america american with slovak background.

Yeah, every Slovak-American I’ve met has been immediately from or had a parent from Cleveland. That’s only like three people..otherwise I about never meet Slovak-Americans. Comparatively , quite a few more people with Czech background (here that is).

My locale has many East Slavs, west Slavs and south Slavs...not very representative of the county as a whole.

While many Slavs and other eastern europeans have contributed significantly in the past 2 centuries, the pioneers of this country are neither.

There are many parts of the country that have Slavic history, but especially in the Industrial/Rust Belt cities. Chicago is probably the best example? Many Poles, Russians, Ukrainians, Serbians, Croats, Bosnian, Greeks, Bulgarians, Romanians, etc...both historical and current migrations. The Polish influence in Chicago and surrounding areas is strong with local identity and culture. I believe central Canadian provinces also have strong Eastern European culture, especially Ukrainians? As was mentioned....Texas has many Czech/Bohemian established towns from many migrations.
