In the State of São Paulo, approximately 41,794 indigenous people live, which represents 5% of the indigenous population in Brazil (2010 Census) most of the indigenous population lives in Indigenous Lands, and the rest in large cities.
the main ethnic groups of these 40,000 thousand indigenous people are mainly Mby'a Guarani, Kaingang, Krenak and Terena who inhabit indigenous lands located on the coastal strip, in Vale do Ribeira, in the west of the State of São Paulo and also in the metropolitan region of São Paulo. Mby'a Guarani, are the largest population in the state living in indigenous lands.
