Much has been made about the racial divisions in Latin American countries, yet is there any city in Latin America where there are two neighbourhoods with such strikingly different racial compositions as this?

I don't see why it is surprising. If you are aware how many people live in LA County; their is bound to be differences.

East Los Angeles isn't a town or an incorporated city, it's a neighborhood in unincorporated LA county. This proves nothing BTW. You're comparing a rich coastal town to an immigrant entry point neighborhood, nothing stocking about the demographics.

Yes, but I doubt in most cities in either Latin America or Europe - including big and diverse ones like Mexico City, Sao Paulo, London or even Paris - you'd have two neighbourhoods where the racial contrast is quite that big.

N.B. And I know London in particular very well - not even heavily South Asian neighbourhoods like Southall, Wembley, Harrow, Whitechapel and Spitalfields are as extreme as East LA is.

Malibu is on the outskirts of LA County, not in the middle of LA you ignoramus. It's basically a suburb. The comparison to Paris and London is a joke. So there aren't mostly white suburbs in London or Paris?

Because I sometimes hear - not least from certain Chicanos - about how racially-integrated and enlightened the US is compared to anywhere in Latin America, whereas in truth few if any Latin American cities would have such extremes in racial composition as the above.

The whitest parts of London would be the mainly lower-middle class boroughs of Havering, Bromley and Bexley, which are circa 80% White. On the other hand, the really prosperous neighbourhoods like Richmond, Twickenham, Wimbledon, Sutton, Surbiton, Kingston etc. are more diverse than one might think.

Affluent neighborhoods of LA and the Bay Area have diversity too, you just choose one of the whitest ones in Malibu so it's not the best example. Even Beverly Hills is more diverse. Go looks at suburbs in the San Gabriel Valley or Orange County.

OK, but considering that Los Angeles doesn't even have a White majority - in fact, Hispanics actually make up a plurality of the population - the fact that areas like Malibu still exist is astounding itself. In contrast, not even London or Paris are minority White cities (yet), albeit ironically this has been in part due to large-scale migration from Southern and Eastern Europe, rather than necessarily 'native' Whites staying around.
