Stevie Wonders popularity was before 38 y.o. guys were born or during their childhood. I guess Lauryn Hill as example of mass culture that is americano-centric so it is popular in societies where USA have more cultural influence. When Lauryn Hill released this album i worked in store that was oriented on jazz listeners and it was popular among such people but not among average listener. Here her CDs were in the one row with Cesaria Evora, Herbie Hancock or King Crimson but not among what is popular in charts.

I don't think it should have much too do with age, I am much younger than him and I know Stevie Wonder well. His songs are still played on Polish radios, appear on some TV shows etc.

He is even being referenced in a big Polish hit from the 90s by Kayah called 'Supermenka'. As for Lauryn Hill, yeah she's not mainstream but she's not a jazz singer either.

I like her rapping too, especially in Everything Is Everything.

The first time I came across her was in this film, yet only retrospectively did I realise it was her.
