There's a significant portion of the public who have been convinced - or convinced themselves - that a few idiots trespassing on the Capitol was on the same level as 9/11, or even worse than 9/11, and unironically view their political opponents as terrorists who need to be punished by any means at their disposal, which includes reprisals via the "justice system"
