Why I Don't Want to Live in the U.S. Ever Again

Unless you have good partners. A friend of mine owns a restaurant with 2 other associates: each one works 2 straight days and they close on Sundays. They are not doing bad.

That's why I think it is best to find someone to partner up with that you can get along with and trust rather than go at it alone. It's far less stressful when you have someone you can rely on.

Although that's not always possible. Then there is the possibility of the partner you get along with selling his part to someone you realize you can't get along with. I've seen that happen before. I've seen a guy try to get his partner arrested so he could take over the business.

America seems nice if you come from Eastern Europe or Greece or something but not if you are coming from Scandinavia or the Netherlands etc... where the governments actually legitimately care about their people. How many Scandinavians and Dutch people are emmigrating to America instead of say Poles or Greeks etc... or something ?

After careful observation it can be depending on the person, and 2nd if that person has pre-determined condition with their system that they didn't know, have cancer, diabetes or they're obese, face the biggest risk.. But for a young healthy adult.. Nope.

Young healthy adults can carry COVID and be asymptomatic, but they also can infect many other persons who will suffer severely the illness and even die.

To Faklon: I don't give a damn for the profession. The fact is that in terms of absolute numbers, way more people have immigrated inside the EU than in America. You cannot compare the 20.000-ish (at max) that went to America during the crisis with the other 150-200.000 that either went in Germany or Britain or any other EU member state. You numerically cannot compare these two waves of immigration.

To stellan: Yeah, and? I also know people who went to the US for studies. But that wasn't my point. My point was that in absolute numbers more people migrated to Europe than America.

Yep. Greeks are among those immigrant groups that figured out a way to be successful in the US, consistently. It's quite impressive really, especially when you consider that we had a Greek Vice President in the 1970s and a Presidential candidate in the 1980s, when at the time we only had one Catholic president (and he was assassinated). I think it says more about Greek culture and values than anything about the US. The fact is, though, in the US, they do tend to own and work in restaurants.

The profession is absolutely relevant, you have to qualify for a US green card.

On the other hand, you only have to show your ID card in order to become a waiter in Germany.

This isn't the 50s where anyone can move to the U.S. Only well educated people from Greece can move to the U.S., like scientists, engineers, doctors, etc. You're looking at numbers when profession does make a difference, a poor uneducated Greek doesn't have the option to go to the U.S. so obviously they'd choose somewhere like Germany.
