Allegedly Serbia is the third richest country in Europe in terms of lithium reserves. The highest concentration of lithium is in western Serbia near Drina river, and Rio Tinto wants to exploit that area. Corrupt and criminal Serbian government makes final preparations to enable exploitation of lithium in western Serbia by RT. They lie citizens of Serbia that there will be no environmental damage, and Serbia will gain enormous economic benefits and will be for lithium what is Saudi Arabia for oil. Many people don't believe in that story and they are aware of the potential ecological catastrophe. Locals from the area where RT wants to exploit lithium were the first to rise up against this project, because their property is endangered including large areas of very fertile land. Later anti Rio Tinto protests spread to the rest of Serbia. Wherever Rio Tinto came in the world it caused and ecological catastrophe.
