Without Christianity, there can be no benevolent and freedom loving society. Europeans thought they prospered and had good societies just because they were so cool. But now we see how wrong that thinking was!

The new gods of "science" and "democracy" has not stopped our governments from becoming authoritarian and trample on our freedoms. Just look at what is happening in Australia, Austria and parts of America. When people abandon God and their Christian faith, they open themselves to abuse, because they are renouncing God's protection that they took for granted!

This is when you are going from one world view to NO world view. Imo it has nothing to do with a particular religion. Or are the moral and other qualities of pre christian (i. e. pagan) antique Roman an Greek civilisations doubtful in that respect?

True, the problem is also that they are replacing Christianity with nihilism or belief in nothing at all. Well technically they are trying to replace with political correct thinking, but that is such a debased and hollow world view, to be equal with nothing. Most people don't even believe in the tenets of political correctness. They are just terrified for their job or freedom, so they pretend they agree. Only a loud and aggressive minority takes p.c. seriously and tries to impose it as the new religion.
I still believe Christianity is superior to Greco-Roman ancient paganism though. Maybe it's just a subjective opinion. I just deeply feel myself a Christian and that is important to me. I think historically Europeans in general have felt more strongly attached to Christianity than to any other religion or ideology. The pagans did not have missionaries or crusades and that says a lot. They did not feel the need to fight and die for their faith as much and they did not try as hard to convert foreign peoples to it.

Christianity has been an anchor rather than a propellant of Western success. The secularised Christian society of the 17th-early 20th century was the sweet spot that coincided with European world domination and vitality.
