Thousands of years ago, all of our ancestors were polytheistic. Whether you are European, African or even middle eastern.
The world was very different back then for sure. Fast forward to today. Islam and Christianity are the biggest religions in the world. These religions have played a key role of how we lead a different lifestyle to how our ancestors did. Can you think of any examples of how the spread of Abrahamic religions changed the world ??
MIDDLE EAST :
- before the birth of Abrahamic religions, burying female infants was very common. It was considered shameful for a couple to announce that they will be having a baby girl. These days, burying female infants is very rare and illegal.
- prostitution was practiced openly before the spread of Abraham of religions. Today of course, it is illegal in many countries.
- there was no dress code. People dressed however they liked. Some preferred showing less skin because they wanted to protect themselves from sun. However, women were able to dress however they wanted.
EUROPE (southern):
-sexuality in Ancient Greece and Rome: There were no rules to having sex really. People can do whatever they wanted. Pedophilia wasn’t considered shameful. Adult men would commonly have sex with prepubescent males. Bestiality and incest were also practiced. People would also invite each other to sex parties (orgies). Of course, after the spread of Christianity, all of this had to come to an end! After the spread of Christianity, sex between males in general was banned. People were required to wait till marriage to have sex. Orgies were also banned.
AFRICA:
-Wearing minimal clothes or no clothes at all was the norm. However, after the spread of Christianity and Islam, people are required to wear clothes for modesty purposes. It is a rare sight to see naked people walking around in African cities these days. If seen naked, the police may even arrest you in some countries.
