Default Are foreigner turks who appreciate Atatürk more progressive?

I noticed that many of the turks living in my area that are more progressive or adapted to Austria, often have post something about atatürk on their facebook or they have pictures of him, why is that? he seems like a hero to them or an inspiration. I dont get the context usually or what the caption says, because most of their posts are in turkish. I think most of them are still muslim, but none of them wear a headscarf, and none seem extreme. i think they are probably less strict muslims. Sometimes you can not distinguish these from ordinary austrians, aside from some phenotypic differences, but they act, talk much more like other austrians opposed to the conservative ones, where often the parents cannot even speak german, they seem less extreme somehow, more open and more likely to adjust. They are still proud turks, most speak turkish etc. but some also especially the younger ones, speak german among themselves even, they seem to like both turkey and also appreciate austria. I just think i noticed a pattern there.

These are in contrast to others, that seem to isolate themselves more, some even recently tried wearing headscars and i think they want to seperate themselves from others. Are these more likely supporters of Erdogan? And the other ones are against Erdogan and more in support of what Atatürk made in the past?

I dont really know anything about turkish history, i just know Atatürk was quite progressive himself and introduced secularism to Turkey. Is Atatürk generally important to turks or especially to turks that seem more progressive, maybe atheistic or maybe is it a class thing?

Are foreigner turks who appreciate Atatürk more progressive?
--Essentially yes. Turks abroad are (except for Turks in Usa) mostly eastern Anatolians and Gulenist exiles so theyre much more religious than Turkish average. If you see one of them sharing Atatürk, it means person is not an islamist and either a very light muslim or secular.

Things are different for Turks of Turkey. I dont want to talk i put the evidence here..

I think Atatürk is more a nationalist symbol.

Not only nationalist. He is symbol of everything good you can imagine. Hes nationalist but this is 'ideal' nationalism, not an aggressive one. Remember his words: "Peace at home, peace in the world."

Basically hes symbol of two very important things= 1>Dedication to nation 2>Logic, sense, intelligence, philosopy, progression and even love. So hes basically the opposite of backwardness and malignancy.

***P.s: If youre a person who want to do somethig which worth investing your time, just learn about Atatürk's life and thoughts.***

Probably. Just like there are far right and left in austrians, there are secular more liberal turks and there are more nationalist and or islamist turks.

Apparently they are more progressive. Atatürk is the founder of Republic of Turkey and one of the most important people in Turkish history with both his military success and his reforms.

Yeah they're more progressive but Atatürk generally important to all Turks. He's a symbol for both seculars, liberals and nationalists. But I don't mean a extreme nationalism. Some extreme nationalists also see him as a symbol, but Atatürk's nationalism is based on Turkish citizenship. There are also those who don't like Atatürk, they generally Islamists. Even some Erdoğan supporters see Atatürk as a symbol.

You can't expect third generations Turks living in Germany-Austria, to not have partially assimilated. It's a natural process : you are born somewhere, you grow up there, go to school there, watch TV there, socialize there (friends/girlfriends), you work there, ...

What slows down the assimilation process of Turks was bringing wives from villages, because at each generation, you had new arrival, so still strong connection to Turkey

Once this pattern is broken, meaning German/Austria-born & raised Turks marry with other Germany/Austria born & raised ones (or with other ethnicities), the assimilation is faster

most are, but theres some trend that some of them, are becoming more conservative, sometimes more conservative than their parents, as if they were to seek their traditiosn and become more extreme and protective about it. these are a minority, but something recent.

Also i hardly know ones which mix with austrians... especially turkish woman+austrian guy, i know one or two turkish man+austrian woman.
