Default Which Southern European country had the greatest impact on the Western World?

The three major countries of the Mediterranean, Italy, Spain and Greece, have changed Europe and the world as we know it forever. Which country do you think had the greatest impact? Personally, I vote Italy due to the Roman Empire, the Renaissance, and the Roman Catholic Church.

    It depends on your perception:

Greece - the importance of ancient Greek philosophy can not be underestimated. Our modern world does not exist without ancient Greek philosophy.

Italy - the spread of Latin and Roman law has obviously had a major impact on Europe.

Spain - its impact on the Americas.

Although neuroscience has made philosophy irrelevant in 2021, I picked Greece. Ancient Greek philosophy is the foundation of European intellectualism. It has influenced Christianity, Islam, and I believe maybe the Kabbalah (?).

    Undoubtedly Greece.

It was the founder of Western civilisation on many sectors: philosophy, architecture, political organisation (democracy as it's widely known, but also critical for the development of all kinds of government), medicine, the physical sciences etc. Plus, it directly influenced the Romans on a whole lot of things, and they were responsible for the enacting of the Renaissance in a way, as the migration of Greek scholars from the besieged Constantinople brought a lot of ancient Greek texts in the Italian peninsula, thus creating the interest for the revival of many ancient Greek and Roman ideals in the arts and literature.

Greece. This is why Greece is more Western than rest of the Balkans.

    Difficult.

Italy (Roma really but whatever) impacted in the European context of everything.
    Greece impacted in Roma.
Spain impacted in America, and has been the greatest diffuser of Catholicism around the world, above Roma.

Italy. Even roots of capitalism are from there, from merchantilism of Italian city states. It was perfected in Protestant Europe later, but nevertheless.

Yes. And later even the fashism originated there.
