It depends on time period, Spain started to be influential after 1492 AD, while Italy already entered the period of its decline at that time.

    I voted for Spain.

Hard one. Greece gave birth to the western civilization, but Spain and Italy gave shape to the modern world as we know it today in different ways. Italy in ancient times (through the Roman empire) spreading the civilization through great part of the known world, and then with the Reinsurance, and some more contributions afterwards, and then Spain spreading that same civilization and Catholicism through great part of the Americans, inaugurating the age of worldwide geographical discoveries, and worldwide European colonialism, which also changed the modern world forever.

Portugal also shares some merit with Spain, in inaugurating the age of worldwide European colonialism.

It's an adaptation of greek alphabet, which is an adaptation of original phoenician alphabet, which were the first to create a fonetic alphabet, the most simple and perfect script one can imagine.

As for the cuestion I think ancient Rome was the most influential, neither the most intellectual nor the most discoverer but yes, we write in latin script since many centuries ago.

But we write in more or less the same alphabet as Italians themselves, whereas Greek looks clearly different to me.

That's why Rome was the most influential, they didn't invent the fonetic alphabet (for example), they only adopted and adapted it, but through the roman empire, and when it falls through the catholic churh, their version of fonetic alphabet becomes the most widespread and used, the most influential.
