Soldiers do need a certain mindset in combat - usually a soldier wants to follow a general or captain that is of noble stock that makes constant correct decisions. Having a bad leader or wannabe leader is bad news.
Always depends on the circumstance but non combatants are a no go area.
This is why I loathe Islamists and their fake god.
