    Yes and no.
    There are a lot of people with basque origin who trace their roots in colonial times and most of them are part of the élite.
    But also there are other basque descendants like me, who have mostly recent ancestors in Euskal Herria, Navarre or Pyrenees Atlantiques and are mostly middle class.

    Aguirre and Ibarra it seems are too and quite common too, even though depending where.
    I’ve heard that Muńoz was basque too but I am not sure really.

    Yep, Goicochea being one of those. But the ones that take the cake for upper classness here are the Catalan ones (Puig, Llibre, Barceló, Mallol, etc.), not a single one of them can be found on the hoi polloi here.

    No, they aren't common in Brazil. Chiq surnames here = Italian, Germans and Iberians that aren't super typical, like Dantas, Pinheiros, Andrade, Mello, Bittencourt, etc.
