Joe Biden's diversity chef is surprised by the absence of blacks on his visit to Brazil

Gina Abercrombie-Winstanley, 64, who took over in April the newly created head of Diversity and Inclusion at the US State Department, new to the Joe Biden administration, visited Brazil in December and gave her impression of the country.


''I certainly noticed that most of the people were not black, but white and almost white. Definitely lighter than me. And knowing that the Brazilian population is close 50%-50% [black and white], I feel I asked, 'Okay, where's everything else?

It was a short trip, I was only in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, so I can only speak limitedly about São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. I certainly noticed that most of the people I saw were white or nearly white. I saw few black people. So I'll have to go back to visit other places in Brazil''

Tbh before I joined TA my view of Brazil was also that stereotypical one.
