Turkey is full of highlands, close to Caucasus and cold air comes from the north. Coastal areas are Mediterranean, some places even subtropical. Because of that there are often tornadoes, especially during the winter. Eastern parts have hard winters which are cold as the Alps/Scandinavia.

Answer: 1) They're almost surrounded by the Med sea 2) The mountain chains to its north acts as some sort of barrier for precipitation and colder fronts 3) Combine that plus the fact that they're at lower latitudes compared to the rest of Europe/ get more sunshine (UV rays).

Turkey is full of highlands, and is a greater continental mass compared to peninsular Greece.
